The Maxwell Sponsorship Award is named after long-time supporters Bonnie and Ray Paul’s beloved cat, Maxwell. Maxwell is a 4-year-old domestic short hair cat who had been overlooked and in the FCDRT system for over 8 months. Despite being FIV+, once adopted, Maxwell transformed into the cat both Bonnie and Ray and FCDRT volunteers knew he would be!

The Maxwell Sponsorship Award is an innovative idea that allows friends of Fancy Cats & Dogs Rescue Team to donate the adoption fee and assist in covering the day-to-day expenses of their favorite cat. The sponsorship allows the adoption fee to be waived for the adopter and FCDRT to be able to recover the expenses of caring for the cat while finding it a permanent home.

The only criterion for a cat to be eligible for this award is being in the FCDRT system for longer than 2 months. For a cat to receive the Maxwell Sponsorship Award, a sponsor must donate $150, which covers the cat's adoption fee, plus an additional medical contribution. For each additional $150 donated in that cat’s name, that cat receives an additional star. This continues until all of the day-to-day expenses for the cat have been covered.

Just imagine, a cat in need of a home for months will now have its best chance ever to find that permanent home! That is what we hope the Maxwell Award will accomplish: helping some of the region’s most vulnerable animals finally finding a loving and permanent home that they so desperately need.

No worries, volunteers will happily pick the most deserving cat to bestow this prestigious award on.
